Face those fears….

Every year Eric’s company has their annual picnic at the Worlds of Fun amusement park. The girls look forward to this each and every year with great anticipation, and this year was no exception. We have a picture on our fridge of the first time Allison and Meredith rode the Viking Voyager – the log ride type of roller coaster, where you all sit in a big log and get splashed as you go up and down hills and around curves. Allison and Meredith have ridden it every time we’ve gone to the picnic. But not Lydia. This year, she vowed that she was going to get on this ride too. All through the line, she was nervous, and kept thinking about backing out. Right up until our boat started moving, she was still considering changing her mind…until it was too late:

Should I feel bad for finding these pictures to be hilarious??

After it was over, she claimed that she had a lot of fun on this ride. I’m not sure that the evidence supports this claim ;-)

  1. She looks like she is having a great time :-) What an adorable picture!

  2. My face looks like that every time I go on the log ride at the local park. :)

I am glad that she had fun.

  3. Ben and I cracked up looking at this pic! Rachel is into screaming to get off rides lately… she did it to my mom at the carousel and to Ben’s parents on the zoo train last weekend. Lydia’s face is all too familiar…

  4. Two summers ago, we took the kids to a local amusement park. Riley was three then, and rode this one ride – you went way up (like 10 ft or something), then it dropped you about a foot or so and stopped, then again, and again until you got to the bottom. It was for kids, so I stood in front of the ride and watched. Every time that thing dropped, Riley’s face took on a look of horror. Smiling-terrified-smiling-terrified, all the way down. I laughed my butt off, and the other parents looked at me like I was insane. “I don’t think she likes it,” one mom told me – you know, in that condescending voice. I just laughed and said, “Naw, she’s having a blast!”

Looks like Lydia is had a blast too :)

  5. OH my! That brings back sooooo many memories. Endless runs through the rain-shortened line to the Orient Express, trying to hold down the last pretzel inside the Finnish Fling, and chiling on Le Taxi Tour.
