you know what I realized yesterday? I’ve been soda free for a year and 5 days. I had my last soda shortly after xmas 2006. I made a semi-resolution (I don’t REALLY make new year’s resolutions..but I sorta kinda set new year’s goals) to not drink a single sip of soda during 2007…and guess what? I didn’t have a single sip. All year. I’ll stick to this for 2008 too

it had to happen some day
Today Lydia tried out a dance class. She was excited all weekend, and this morning popped out of bed and got on her dance gear. We got to the class and she was very nervous. She hugged and kissed me 3 times before letting me leave…then she cautiously joined the circle of other little dancers and didn’t look back. After the class was over, she was very proud and excited and said she now wants to take lessons too. She did great. Her teacher was Meredith’s first teacher a couple of years ago (and Meredith’s teacher now) and has seen Lydia growing up in the waiting room. Lydia reported that she loved dance but the other little girls wanted to touch her a lot. When I suggested that she ask them to stop if she didn’t like it, she said, “But I want them to touch me so we can be friends!” – this from the little girl who has only wanted her sisters as friends up to this point.
So after the holidays, every Monday morning, Lydia will be joining the ranks of her older sisters as a dance student.
Can someone hand me a tissue?

Frozen in
Ice ice ice….and no scotch in the house.
Today we were frozen in as KC was hit with an ice storm. Not as bad as originally predicted, but not too minor either. These were all taken from my front porch. I probably could have gotten better pictures…if I’d been willing to strap on my high heels and venture further out into the ice and freezing rain, but I’m a wuss. SO here ya go….
So what did we do during our shut-in period? Arts and crafts…nothing like foam cutouts and some glitter glue, eh?

Its a girl!
A few nights ago, Eric and I got to play dress up and go out to a real live grownup formal holiday party. I wore these shoes. I hate shoes. I LOVE these shoes. Oh what evil lies within…… Where is the nearest shoe store? And can I wear these with jeans (as I am in the above picture?) and out in the ice?
And here we are all dressed up and ready to go…leaving 45 minutes late, thus explaining my personal stunningness as well as the pissed off expression on Eric’s face

And ladies, I know you are all jealous of a man who can pull off a 70s style polyester tuxedo – with ruffles (and no, it wasn’t a costume party), but this man is mine, all mine.
