So I joined a CSA, and got my first batch of freshly picked, organically grown goodies yesterday! I got a bunch of bright flavorful lettuce (can’t remember what kind), a bag of YUMMY spinach, some eggs (no baby chickens came out), some rhubarb (we’re going to make a pie tomorrow!), some other green thing with flowers and vine like shoots that I can’t remember the name to but tastes really good on a salad even though I can’t quite muster the nerve to eat the flowers thing..and some radishes, which I hate, but hey. Anyway, I have been enjoying the most lovely salads!
My vow with the CSA is to eat everything I get (except those dang radishes – oh, and the flowers), even if I have no idea what I am eating. Figure that will help with my goal to get more fruits and veggies in my diet as well.
In other news, I went to my neighborhood book club last night, and had a very enjoyable time. Drank probably 2 glasses of wine too many (3 glasses seems like a good amount for me, but I had five – shh, don’t tell my mom, k?), so got kinda chatty. I’m normally so shy and reserved, so I hope I didn’t say anything embarrassing
But it was SO much fun (maybe because of the wine, huh?). After the meeting broke up around 11, three of us sat in the driveway chatting.. I didn’t get home until after 12:30! The topic of the evening was largely on birth (oh, we should have discussed the book?? hmm…that’s odd!), as the host is 7 months pregnant with her first child. Odd how you get 12 women in a room, and if one is pregnant, the other 11 feel the need to share their stories and advice. This poor woman sat there like a deer in the headlights. “You MUST get the epideral” was quickly followed by 3 or 4 epidural horror stories. “Big babies MUST result in a c-section” was quickly followed with stories about 13lb babies being born naturally with no tearing. It was really quite comical to be honest. But this poor poor woman. And it was a bit discouraging how FREAKISH the three of us who had natural childbirths were made to feel…”You did WHAT? OMG, WHY?????” Of course I was the only one who had had 2 of her babies at home in a horse trough. TRUMP!
Glad you enjoyed the book club! I have thought about joining one sometime.
