We started this book tonight. Read the first two chapters.
I am so happy. When we were done with those chapters and I said it was time for bed, Allison was SOBBING for one more chapter please MOM. JUST ONE MORE. & Meredith listened attentively throughout the whole thing (usually during chapter books, Meredith gets up and starts playing or making noise…or just being four – she prefers picture books)
Now that’s what I’m talking about! BAM!
Went to bed with Allison as Mr. Tumnus (because of the crying – got a smile from her, what can ya do?) and Meredith as Lucy.
Great to hear this. I worry sometimes that there are so many other forms of entertainment for today’s youth, that reading books will become a lost art. I really feel that there is nothing else out there that helps children find their creative side and inspires them, like books can.
I hope Tobey is up for chapter books in the coming years too!
I haven’t read chapter books to the girls lately. I really should, but can’t seem to get bedtime early enough that I have the energy to sit down and read to them. Maybe if I start them getting ready for bed 30 minutes earlier… I was in the middle of reading Voyage of the Dawn Treader to her when things just became too busy. And now it’s been MONTHS! Probably have to start that one over!
Well we finished the book tonight. Allison reports that she LOVED it, Meredith said, “not so much mom”. She’s four. It is a bit old for her. We start out with a picture book and then a chapter from a chapter book, so hopefully everyone is happy. Tonight I had to wrestle with a baby, so Allison read the picture book for me. Nice.
Tobey will love chapter books Alan! And someday Meredith will as well…and then Lydia. and I will have to read all these books all over again
I think we are going to start on Pippi Longstocking tomorrow night…not sure yet.
And Andrea, that is what I am doing, getting everyone in bed 30 mins earlier. It was just getting too crazy around here and I found that I was rushing everyone to bed so that I could get to my office to work, and reading was taking a backseat most nights. Now that Eric puts Lydia down for bed, if I get everyone going 30 mins earlier, I can really set this time aside for reading again. We haven’t had a regular bedtime reading thing in a long time.
