Allison:
* Reading – lesson 72 from 100EZ lessons, read about a girl and her white tooth brush. She lost it but it turned out that the dog was using her white tooth brush because he liked his teeth to shine like the moon! Allison thought this was a very funny story! (25 minutes)
* Grammer/Language Arts – started working with a poem called the catepillar. Read it a few times, talked about it, memorized the first two lines, and then Allison and Meredith both illustrated a copy of the poem for their notebooks (5 minutes, with 10 minutes or so to illustrate the poem)
* Handwriting, did some copywork from the above poem. Allison picked out a line from the poem and copied it. (10 minutes)
* Science, talked a bit about butterflies and caterpillars. (5 minutes)
* Math – reviewed the days of the week and the months of the year. Reviewed even/odd numbers from yesterday and did some adding of even/odd numbers. Didn’t play the games because Allison was not focused at all, and we thought it best just to stop for the day. (15 minutes)

Meredith:
* did some work with the poem Allison worked with, illustrated a copy of it, and also talked about it.
* reviewed the months of the year with Allison.

Log – 1/17/05

I’m copying a friend here. I really want to keep this blog updated, if for nothing else, so I have a record of what we have done and my thoughts, etc. When I started this blog it was to show family that may not understand homeschooling, what we do, etc. But that never became much of a priority. I feel that we are doing the right thing…the best thing, and I really don’t feel the desire to prove it, defend it, whatever!

Just an update. Allison is 5. She is a Kindergartener, but she is doing work from a variety of levels – mainly first grade. I don’t plan on labeling her based on grade, but I know that is how the world works, so for all intensive purposes, she is a Kindergartner. I think that on her 6th birthday, I will officially make her a first grader, lol. That way, on her 18th birthday she will also graduate :-) We’ll see. Meredith is 3, and joins in sometimes :-)

Log:
Allison –
*Reading – lesson 71 from 100EZ lessons…read all about a fat eagle saving a little white eagle from a tiger. The eagle jumped on the tiger. She really got a kick out of this story! Her reading is so good, and her comprehension improves every day. Fluency, here we come! – about 35 minutes (she was extra distracted today)
*Language – lesson 1 from First Language Lessons – introduced the noun. 5 minutes
*Math – Right Start Math – can’t remember the lesson number, but we introduced the concept of even and odd numbers, and discussed the months in the year. She really GOT the concept of even/odd very quickly, and loved the games that went with it, 10 minutes, with about 10-15 minutes of games.
*Handwriting – did the lowercase P from Handwriting without Tears 5 minutes.

Meredith:
* Did the months with us when we did math
* Listened to Allison read the story about the eagle
* Did a page in her preschool Handwriting without Tears – the letter O, with a picture of an otter.
